Sea Bay

Chinese Cuisine

372 Pitt St, Sydney. Open Mon - Sat 11.30am - 10.30pm.

  • Definitely at the top of out cheap eats in Sydney list.
  • Best dumplings and handmade noodles in Sydney. Plus some obscure favourites such as pigs ear salad(!).
  • Dead cheap (in a group of four you can all walk out of there, with full stomachs, for about $15 each)
  • Lacks ambiance - it’s a tight, loud room, no romance here. But that’s not why you're going, right?

Harry's Cafe de Wheels

Pies, mash, mushy peas, sausage roles, hot dogs

CBD locations open Mon – Fri 8.30am (Woolloomooloo), 9am (Ultimo), and both open at 10am (Sat, Sun).

6 locations around town:

  • The original - Cowper Wharf Rd, Woolloomooloo
  • The CBD - Hay Street (near crn of George), Haymarket
  • South CBD – Known as Hannah’s Pies, 562 Harris Street, Ultimo
  • Also located in Liverpool, Parramatta and Tempe
  • Woolloomooloo and Haymarket stay open really late Friday and Saturday nights
  • A Harry’s Tiger (pies + mash + mushy peas + gravy) will set you back about $10
  • These are sidewalk cafés, tables and chairs are rare, just make it up as you go!

Abduls Restaurant

Lebanese Cuisine

563 Elizabeth St, Surry Hills. Open Sun – Thurs 10am – 11pm, Fri – Sat 10am – 12am.

  • This is the best place, in our opinion, to experience shawarma in Sydney
  • Also yummy kebe, lady fingers and Lebanese sweets
  • Spend $25 here and you will struggle to walk out of the joint!
  • You might be asked to sit in an obscure spot if there are only two of you, but that's all part of the fun of finding cheap eats in Sydney

Pho 236

Vietnamese Cuisine

236 King St, Newtown. Open daily 11.30am - 10pm.

  • Cheap and cheerful Pho and other Vietnamese delights
  • I say cheerful, as the décor is bright, sparse and loud. Though it’s a quick meal so you get used to it.
  • A bowl of Pho will set you back less than $10
  • Amity is a big fan of the spring rolls vermicelli and fresh rice paper roles, I like the special Pho
